After breakfast we decided to borrow a couple of bikes from the hotel and to ride up to the Legion Beach area. Same direction as we always walked in, but further.
We rode for around 30 minutes but we ended up on the main roads and in traffic. It was getting hairy scary, plus we were on a slow roast. We have been traveling for 2 1/2 months now and believe me, we still have NOT adapted to the heat and humidity.
We got as far as here, which translate to Kuta Beach, so obviously did not make it up to Legion Beach.
The beach up here was much nicer than the beach that was further south, near where we were staying. If we ever get to go back, we will have to check this area out for sure.
The surfers seemed to be loving the waves today. Wonder if it is always like this here?
After touring around for a bit, we decided to head back to the hotel. Plus our butts were hurting and we still had the ride back. Back through the traffic. YIKES!
It was a very relaxing afternoon in the pool. I spent a good hour just floating around on an air mattress, while Doug guided me around the pool. We had really needed time to relax and we were getting it. Perfect weather and great bar staff. What more could a person want? We must have been really relaxed, as I don’t even have pictures of our lunch or my Chocolate Martini.
Should we ask what Doug is doing?
Pretty sure he was looking at his phone, while waiting for me, but we will never know.
Back in the room we did, yes, more laundry. This was the ideal place to get it done as it dried quickly in the heat and sun. After doing the laundry we headed back to the loungers to read, but soon discovered it was just too hot. Back to the room we went. Doug to watch Netflix and myself to work on our blog. We had pretty good internet here. Plus a nice view from our air conditioned room.
Dinner tonight was back at the pool bar as I couldn’t deal with seeing the poor cats again. It was heart breaking to me.
It had been a while since I had had any bites, but Indonesia did not disappoint me, and was sending me off with a doozie.
Later we packed up all our clean laundry, as we are off to Australia tomorrow!
Today, we decided we really needed to buy a few gifts/souvenirs for people back home. We had been gone 2 1/2 months and bought nothing other than a few t-shirts for ouselves. So we headed back to the Discovery Mall in downtown Kuta. We spied this beautiful butterfly/moth on the ground. Not sure if it was dead or resting, but guessing dead, since it seems to be belly up.
The ocean was a little rough today, with waves coming way up and over the rocks and path. Tide was definitely in.
We purchased a few items from the market inside the mall and from the outdoor market that we found. Of course had to stop and have our ‘usual’ from Starbucks. Vanilla Ice Lattés. Saw a march or parade of some sort going on.
Took a gander at Bubba Gump again, but once again we weren’t hungry and it was still morning. Not even sure if it was open yet. Really, really need to come back here.
School was just being let out and kids were flowing out. All the schools seem to have school uniforms. At least the ones we saw did. Lots being picked up by their parents on scooters. Lots of hydro lines here also.
Strolled back to our hotel and saw lots of surfers out today. Guess it must have been a good surf day. All the rough waters we saw earlier today seemed to have calmed down some.
Tide was out now. What a difference.
After all our exercise, we noticed it was Happy Hour time. Guess where we headed? Yup to the pool bar. Had to snap a few more flower pictures today. Seems like I am always finding new ones. The ones on the right are Bouganvillea and they are everywhere here. Back home they are so expensive to buy.
Laundry day AGAIN! Always seems to be laundry day, but we had a great spot to hang it to dry.
We headed back to the restaurant tonight and had a table by the edge again. Tonight’s menu looked like it had been retrieved from the garbage as it was so crinkled up.
Eating in the restaurant gives a great view, but the poor little cat came back and makes me so sad. Tonight there were 2 cats. The little guy once again got most of my meat from the cheese steak sandwich. Doug had green curry and therefore could not share with the cat.
The mean man sitting at the table next to us, just kept kicking the cats away. It broke my heart sitting here. This is partially why we had so many of our meals at the pool bar.
Today was another travel day and we were heading back to Kuta for a few more nights. We enjoyed our last breakfast here with our new buddy, the cat. I don’t think he was supposed to be on the table, but what the heck!
We gave him a little bit of our scrambled eggs, which he just looked at. What was he expecting, caviar?
We packed up and checked out of the hotel. We weren’t supposed to check out until tomorrow, but we had changed our plans. We did not ask for a refund, so they still got their money for the extra night. After all, it wasn’t their fault we left early.
We headed downtown to the Blue Water office.
Lots of horse and buggies here this morning awaiting the arrival of new tourists.
We had just been saying the other day, that these places should have a day when everyone, including the tourists, go out and clean up the beaches and road sides. To our surprise, we saw this sign this morning.
Our boat arrived at 1150 hrs and we loaded on, headed for Kuta. The price we paid also included our transportation from the port on Bali to our hotel in Kuta.
At the other end, we had to walk a short distance to get to their office where all the shuttle vans were waiting to take us to our hotels.
We arrived at 1545 hrs and got all checked in. We knew the routine, as we booked the Holiday Inn again. We knew it and we liked it. This room was not a large as the last one, but was still really nice. We had a little outdoor patio this time as we were on the ground floor.
If we hurried we would make it to the pool bar happy hour. Off we went. Mojitos for Doug and Cham 69s for me. Delicious!
Headed back to the room shortly after 1700 hrs and Doug did some hand laundry. Had the perfect place outside to hang it to dry.
The plants sure grow big here. Another one, a Croton, that I use to have as an indoor plant. Mine was only tiny compared to these though.
Dinner tonight was take out from the pool bar and dessert, which we brought back to the room. Enjoyed our dinner in the room while we watched some TV.
Guess what woke us up AGAIN! Yup, the call to prayer. It seemed to happen a lot through out the day today. Not just the once that I remember from yesterday. But, who knows, maybe we just noticed it more today.
Today we thought we would head back to the little café that we had discovered yesterday for our breakfast. YUM….fruit smoothies and fresh croissants. We got the last 2 croissants. They sure do a booming business in this place. And, YES! we got a table inside, in the air conditioning this morning. Have I mentioned today, just how HOT it is here? After a great breakfast we headed back to the hotel, as we decided we would borrow a couple of bikes from them and ride around the island. Island can’t be that big, if you can walk around it. We haven’t been on bikes for years, but you never forget how to ride one, right?
We remember how, but OMG, did we forget about how sore your butt gets! Two hours on a bike…ouch
There were some nice looking bars, beaches and resorts on the other side of the island, but I guess you would have to take the horse and buggies to get to them, especially at night. Just to note, this island has no cars and supposedly no motorcycles, but we did see one motorcycle/scooter on the island.
Some places were nicer than others. It could be quite far in between places, not like the other side of the island, where the main street is.
Most of the over the water swings were occupied, but we finally found one that wasn’t. Had to take our shoes off to go into the water and oh my, that was not fun. Lots of rocks and most likely broken coral covering the ocean floor. Not a good experience at all, but I finally made it out to the swing.
The ‘road’ was getting narrower and narrower, and rougher, as we continued around the island. At one point it ended up being just a narrow sand path, almost impossible to ride on, and we had to get off our bikes, and walk them for a short distance.
We came upon a herd of cows. Looks like they may be tied to the trees. At least they have lots of trees for shade.
It took us around 2 hours to ride around the island and our butts were angry. It was time for a cold Bintang while we sat on the edge of the pool with our feet dangling in the water. It was so relaxing after our long bike ride.
Later we headed back to the downtown area for dinner. Picked out a nice beach side restaurant, IKAM and was given a table on the sand near the water. Moved from our first table as there were a lot of ants near that one. Didn’t want any ant bites. Everything else seems to bite me.
Mai Thai & Frozen Mojito
Dinner was pretty good and with beverages came to IDR Rp 559,00 = Cdn $48.39 Again, not cheap for SE Asia, but about on par for what we have found in Indonesia.
We stopped off at an ATM and successfully got money! Grabbed a couple of ice cream bars from the local convenience store and headed back to the hotel around 5:30 pm. We had to pack up for our speedboat trip back to Kuta tomorrow. Our port was Sanur and then they would take us in a van to our hotel in Kuta.
This is a good picture to show how nice this place was once you got over the entrance way. That is our room. The place was really quiet as I don’t think they were too busy. Only saw a couple of other people.
While we were packing up Doug had a run in with the bed frame. Thank goodness for our first aid kit, yet once again.
Today was Friday the 13th and we were awoken with the Call to Prayer at 0500 hrs!!!!!
We had been warned about this by Paden. It sure wakes a person up quickly. Broadcast across the whole island and turned out our hotel was not far from where it was broadcast from. Extra loud for us.
Breakfast was included and so we ordered breakfast. Not a lot of choice, but it was okay.
The resident cat made her appearance. What a softie. She quickly became our breakfast buddy.
We headed back to the beach area, once again in search of the Blue Water Express office. We had decided we didn’t want to stay on this island for the full 4 nights that we had booked. We just weren’t feeling this island. Thought we would head back to Kuta a day early and spend that extra day there.
One of the streets we had to walk down. Once off the main road, most seemed to be like this.
We passed the school on our way back onto the main road.
Back on the main road, we found a little café and ordered smoothies and banana bread. This place was busy and all the tables inside were full, so outside in the heat is where we sat.
Found the medical center. Sure hope we don’t need them, but good to know that there is at least one on the island.
The beaches that we had seen so far, that looked nice to sunbath on and go into the water, were full of boats. Really ruined it.
There were a few nice areas of beach, but not sure how you scored a lounger on them.
This place, restaurant/bar, whatever it was, was definitely NOT for us.
Back at our hotel we sat around the pool in a couple of the loungers and enjoyed a cold Bintang. This had now become our favourite beer. Pool had been cleaned up and looked so much better now. We managed an hour out there and just had to go inside. Couldn’t take the heat anymore.
EDIT: OMG Just had a good laugh. Looked at the picture and realized that I was drinking a Smirnoff Ice and not Bintang. Doug had the Bintang I guess.
Later on we headed out to get pizza. This place had been recommended to us by Paden. At least we think this was the place. We had checked it out this morning, but I have to say that it looked much better later on in the dim light.
Pizza was decent. Photographer, a little blurry!
Our walk back to our hotel. I did not enjoy this in the dark.
Today was a very early morning, as we had to be up at 0500 hrs. The van was picking us up at 0615 hrs to get us to the port to catch the high-speed boat over to Gili Trawangan which departs at 0800 hrs. I was stressed as the van showed up late. Thank goodness it did show up and did get us to the port in time. No time to spare though.
This was a nice boat we had booked. With lots of BIG motors!
Nice interior with comfy seats. Wonder what the bargin shoppers got?
We departed shortly after 0800 hrs and I decided I would go up top to take some pictures and relax a little. I had to sit down as this boat was flying! It was really hard to even get a picture that was in focus, let along a selfie.
We stopped at some island and some people disembarked.
Next stop was ours, Gili Trawangan, or as many call it, Gili T. I think that there are three Gili islands and we were originally going to go to two, but cut Gili Air out. We arrived at 1020 hrs and disembarked. Called on maps.me once again to find our hotel for us. We were staying in the hotel that Paden and Christine had stayed in back in 2017. We weren’t too sure about this maps.me again as we seemed to be heading into a not so great area.
White Bamboo Resort
It looked pretty new and was quite nice. After chatting with Paden, it turns out we have the exact same room that they had. Top of the stairs and turn left. First room. They had a nice breakfast and relaxing area, but their pool really needed a cleaning. Dead stuff floating.
After checking in and dropping our bags off, we headed back into town and the beach area. It was hotter than hot here. It was scorching hot here! It is small island and they say that it would take approximately 2 hours to walk around the whole island. I will take their word for it, as I am not about to do that.
Since we had been up so early we were getting hungry and decided to search out some food. We stopped in at the Blue Marlin and ordered a couple of Bintangs and shared orders of mozzarella sticks and french fries, or as they call them ‘homemade potato chips’. No food photos. We must have been hungry and tired.
IDR Rp 180,000 = Cdn $15.50
We walked a little more and then headed back to the hotel for a 2 1/2 hr nap.
After our nap, we headed back to ‘the strip’ and looked for the Blue Water Express boat company kiosk. We would have to check in here the day before our return trip to confirm it, so thought we would find where it was now. No luck in finding it. We did find a restaurant with a nice view to have our dinner at though, Tir Na Nog Bar & Restaurant.
Doug ordered Mahi Mahi and I had the Chicken Parmigiana. Of course along with a beverage or two. It was Happy Hour, so my Cosmopolitan was 2 for 1. They brought both at the same time.
IDR Rp 485,864 = Cdn $ 42.00
By now it was 1930 hrs and dark, so we decided to head back to our room.
Had read terrible stories about these horses and how they are treated and under fed. So sad.
Wasn’t too sure about walking those back streets in the dark. We made it back!
Today was going to be a rest day. We sure needed one of these, as we were getting pretty exhausted. Got up and headed down for our included breakfast. Breakfast was great. The bacon on the buffet left a lot to be desired, as in, I like my bacon cooked. Many places over in SE Asia barely cook their bacon. However, I did ask the cook if I could get some crispy bacon. To my surprise he pulls out a tray of crispy bacon. Guess they keep it hidden so that people don’t take it all.
We checked out the resort a little.
This is our room on the second floor. It had a pretty large balcony.
Did a quick check of the beach area, but the beaches here are not the best we have seen. I don’t think Kuta is really known for spectacular beaches though.
Picked out our loungers for the day. Pool area wasn’t busy which was great for us. Bali is known for having thousands and I mean thousands of Chinese tourists. They come by the bus loads, but tend to go out on full day excursions, which leaves the resort pretty empty, nice and quiet.
We scored one of the few air mattresses for the pool. It did have a slow leak though, which could be challenging at times. We took turns floating around on it.
We enjoyed lunch of a crispy chicken wrap, that we shared and a beverage or two at the swim up bar. Doug had one of his favorites, Mojitos (light rum, fresh lime , mint leaf, sugar syrup, peppermint syrup) and I tried a drink called Blue Frozen Kamikaze (vodka, lime juice and curacao) and an Illusion (vodka, triple sec, melon liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice and sugar syrup). Both of course were great.
Headed back to the room for an afternoon nap. We would head back down for Happy Hour.
Someone had booked a private dinner on the beach. We watched while they set up the table and a BIG beautiful heart on the grass area made from rose petals. It looked pretty special. Once the staff member had left, 3 Chinese girls went over to the area and were taking turns posing, while their friend took pictures of them in the heart set up. They also sat at the table pretending to be drinking from the glasses, while having their pictures taken. This went on for a good 10 minutes or more until a staff member came and shooed them away. Once the staff member left and was out of sight, the 3 girls went back and continued taking more pictures. Just so disrespectful! They finally left and thankfully a staff member went back to straighten it all up, yet again, before the actual people showed up for their romantic dinner on the beach.
Happy Hour and watching the sunset was just so relaxing and spectacular.
We ordered dinner and dessert. Doug ordered the Prawns in a Thai Green Curry and I had a Mediterranean Salad. I was still full from our lunch and drinks. Our bill came to IDR Rp 575,000 which is approximately Cdn $51.00 Might not seem to high, but was certainly higher than what we had been paying in Thailand and Cambodia. They also automatically add a SVC charge on here.
I had obviously been bitten a few times while enjoying happy hour and dinner. Guess it will be another itchy night.
We had a great sleep and enjoyed our breakfast that was included. They had a good selection of food I would eat, which is always a bonus, as you never know what the breakfast options are going to be. Coffee was okay also.
We were fed and out before 10:30 which was great as we wanted to do the river cruise.
Just down the street from our hotel was this temple. Not sure what they had lit, but they looked like giant firecrackers to me. Believe it or not, we did NOT stop to check it out.
We crossed over the river to book a river cruise.
Tickets in hand we went in search of washrooms before the cruise tour began. Always seem to be searching for washrooms. Our dollar is almost on par with the Singapore dollar, which makes it great for conversion in my mind.
Headed right back and boarding was just about to begin. We headed to the back of the boat to sit outside. Hoping we would get great views of everything. Thankfully today was a little overcast and we shouldn’t be fried, like we often are.
The River Cruise would take us from Clarkes Quay to the Marina Bay and back.
Merlion ParkEsplanade Theatres on the BaySingapore Flyer Art Science Museum & Marina Bay Sands
The sky was starting to clear and the sun was trying to come out
Helix Bridge
We got back to the dock and decided to wander around riverside area checking out menus of the cafes and pubs. We thought we might come back one evening. That never did happen, but if we ever go back, we will make it happen.
Doug’s favorite wine, Shiraz. YUCK!
By now it was afternoon, as in after 1200 hrs, and we were getting tired and thirsty. Only so much water a person can drink, right? So we looked at a few menus and found a place we could afford. This place looked nice and had cheap beer for Singapore.
We relaxed and enjoyed a couple of cold beers on the riverside.
Wandered up the side streets to see what was around.
Some streets were better than others. Came across this cool vending machine. Can’t say we have ever seen a Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice vending machine before.
We found a Starbucks, but not only was it a Starbucks, it was also where the Canadian Embassy is. Okay Paden, we have found the place for you to get a job so we can visit.
Here is a picture of the old with the new architecture.
We had ended up in Chinatown again and yes, there was a temple that was calling our names.
This was the Sri Mariamman Temple. A Hindu temple and looked very similar to the temple that we had visited in Kuala Lumpur a few days ago. After a while, all these temples start to look a like.
We headed back to the hotel and had an early dinner at the little cafe, the baker & cook, again. I had the same as last night, quiche and salad. Doug also had the same tonight. Did some laundry, as they had laundry facilities, which is always exciting, and chatted with an Aussie couple in the laundry room. It was some nice down time. Then back to the room to relax for a while, but not for long!!!
We were heading to the Gardens by the Bay for the night time light show that was in the Supertree Grove.
We were going to take the MRT there. Unfortunately, but fortunately, we got off at the wrong stop and felt totally lost. Fortunate thing was, apparently a lot of people got off at the wrong stop, so we just followed the crowds. We were on the wrong side of the river and had to cross over the Helix Bridge that is pictured above. As we were crossing over, the light show on the Art Science Museum started. It was awesome. I only got a few photos though as we were walking across the bridge and still a little ways away.
The music and light show was INCREDIBLE. Here are just a few photos that I took. The first one shows the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
You could pay to go up onto the walkway that you can see in the photo below. I would love to to do this some time, but Doug won’t do it. I really hope to get back here one day.
This is my most favorite photo of the nightMarina Bay Sands Hotel
We followed the crowds and found the correct MRT stop to get back to the hotel. Of course you had to cut through a shopping mall to get to the MRT, but talk about a cool shopping mall.
If it hadn’t of been for following the crowds, we still may be wandering around looking for the MRT stop. We managed to find the right train line and get off at the correct stop! We should be proud of ourselves, especially after a long day. 15,468 steps to be exact, but who has been counting? Here is what we saw walking back to the hotel from the MRT stop.
Once we got back to the hotel, we sat in outdoor lounging area, and Doug enjoyed a pint of very expensive draught beer. He said “it was worth it!” I must have been very tired, as I have no pictures of it or the bill! Called it a night!
I was up early and out on our balcony, looking around. Thought I would take some pictures that shows what I saw, the not so nice/clean areas. Our hotel, the Ramada Suites by Wyndham, was amazing and two streets over was Changkat Butik Bintang, the street with all the bars, clubs and restaurants.
Hope he is having fun!
Garbage collection at it’s finest. Didn’t empty the green bin and left piles of garbage on the ground
Since our Hop On/Hop Off bus tickets were good for 24 hours we were able to utilize it again this morning to get to the KL Sentral Bus Terminal. Yes, we did get the Hop On/Hop Off bus from the stop that was much closer to our hotel. In fact, it was right by the McDonalds that we ate at last night. From the KL Sentral Bus terminal, they bussed us to Sentul to catch the KTM line which took us to the Batu Caves in the mountains. Took us a while to figure out how to get there and where to go. Have to say, that we kind of surprised ourselves that we made it, with no issues or without getting lost.
A very short walk from the station and we were there. Quite a spectacular sight to see, I might say, even with all the maintenance scaffolding around. The staircase up to the entrance of the largest cave, Cathedral Cave aka Temple Cave and a 140 foot tall gold painted statue of Lord Murugan.
At the bottom of the stairs, there is a sign asking visitors to help out by carrying a brick or pail of sand to the top. I don’t think they were talking about me. We were still trying to figure out whether or not we, or I, would even make it up the 272 steps to the Hindu Shrine inside the huge cave in the mountain. We had to do the stairs in segments and take a rest in between. I have no idea how some of these people managed to get up here.
There were so many monkeys, actually, they are macaques, but none of them entered any of the caves. It was surprising, so we wondered if they had some kind of electronic device set up to keep the monkeys out.
One of the monkey’s tried to grab our Gatorade out of Doug’s hand. But Doug held on tight and won. We had been warned about the monkeys from Paden. You had to keep everything put away or it was fair game to the monkeys.
Once inside the cave it was so cool…..but so HOT & HUMID. The sweat was just dripping off me.
But the scenery was great. Too bad there were so much refurbishment going on though. It was huge inside!
Looking up out of the Cave
Never fear, there were more stairs!
Time to head back down now.
Dark Cave. Ah shucks! Advance booking required. We did NOT do this cave and tour. After reading the sign, there was NO WAY in hell I would do that tour!!!!. “The highlight of the trip will be our infamous Crawl Passage and viewing the trapdoor spider in their natural habitats. There will be elements of climbing, sliding and of course, the epic crawl! Expect to get wet and dirty.” DEFINITELY NO WAY!!!!
I did take a few pictures in the entrance way, as the rock colours were amazing.
It was apparently cruise ship day today and we saw lots of people from the cruise ships. Chatted with one guy as he was asking if we thought they had time to go to the top and back. They had something like 30 minutes there. Crazy short amount of time to see such an amazing place. Really happy we weren’t doing this on a cruise ship excursion.
We wanted to see the Ramayana Cave also, but had to wait a bit for the ticket sales office to open.
While we were waiting we got to watch this guy for a bit. He was pretty big!
Once inside the cave, it was so different from the Cathedral Cave. It was so vibrant and all but filled with fluorescent lighting, Almost freakish. But never fear, this cave also came with more steps inside. Yes, we did go up them. There weren’t too many people inside here. I guess they just didn’t want to pay to go in.
I feel like these are an optical illusion. Are they going up or are they going down? I know the answer!
Getting the subway back was easy peasy now. We were subway pros and managed to get back to The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. We decided to eat at Quivo, a restaurant in the Pavilion Mall, that I had seen people eating scrumptious looking onion rings at. We ordered a couple pints of draft and onion rings, to be followed by fajitas, that we shared. Onions rings looked a lot better than they tasted, but were still good. Fajitas were average, but what did I really expect?
For dessert we headed to Cold Stone Creamery and Doug got ice cream. Yum Yum Yum For some odd reason I decided to get a pretzel and took no pictures of my pretzel.
We headed back to hotel to pack for our flights to Singapore tomorrow. But, for one last time we just had to pass through rat alley where there about 5 rats scurrying around. GOODBYE RATS!!!
P.S. Saw this guy on the way to the bus this morning!
We slept in this morning and took our time as we were tired from our day traveling yesterday. On my list of attractions to see while in Kuala Lumpur was the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin buildings in the world. It turns out our hotel is located within walking distance of the towers, so that was a bonus. We don’t have to worry about trying to figure out transportation to get there.
Love that once you get into the city center, all the buildings seem to be connected with bridges or covered walkways. You don’t have to go outside if the weather is crappy.
On our way to the Petronas Towers we found a Johnny Rockets in the mall, just like in America!
We didn’t spend any time looking at much as we wanted to get to the Petronas Towers. This was our first view of the towers. It is pretty spectacular. The weather today was great. Not a thousand degrees, yet!
Just our luck…closed on Mondays! And yes, you guessed right. Today is Monday! We really wanted to go up in them, as you can go up to the bridge and walk on it, so change of plans.
Like most tourist spots there are people trying to sell you everything, everywhere. However!!!! This time something really caught my ‘eye’. They were selling the fish’eye’ lens for the phones. Cool right? Yup, you guessed it. I bought one after the vendor took a few photos of us with it.
The fisheye lens distorts the picture a bit, but you get so much more in the frame. To bad it didn’t thin out the bottom portion of the photo instead of the opposite.
We wandered back around to the other side of the towers where there is TAMAN KLCC (KLCC PARK) and the beautiful Tasik Simfoni (Lake Symphony Fountain). Spent quite a bit of time taking photos. Who me take photos? Yup!
After this photo session, we headed into the Suria KLCC shopping mall. Apparently one of Malaysia’s premier upscale shopping malls due to its location. It was pretty spectacular.
We spied a Marks & Spencer store. Oh, how I loved that store’s food when we had them in Canada. Of course we had to go in and do some shopping. We bought a bunch of snacks and Doug got himself an expensive bottle of Shiraz. It was double to triple the prices back home. Alcohol is very expensive here, guessing maybe because it is a Muslim majority country.
Marks & Spencer
Found some really nice jeans at a bargain price….NOT! 789 MYR RM (Malaysian Ringgit) = Cdn $248.61 That is right! For one pair of jeans
We decided to head back to hotel, but first we had to, yes, just had to stop for dessert and Ice Caps at Starbucks. Starbucks is everywhere! On our way through the mall to Starbucks I spied this sign. Guess what! SPAM is also everywhere, but not at Starbucks. Have to mention here that it seems like most of Kuala Lumpur are smokers. Tried to sit in the non-smoking section of Starbucks, but the smokers just take over the whole place. Lots of those Hookah, not hooker, places here also. Really have no idea about hookers, so could be lots of them also.
We decided to take a different street on the way back to the hotel. Completely different view on this street, which was only one street over. This person decided they weren’t going to park on the street, but right on the sidewalk. Good thing they stopped!
Back at the hotel we decided to check it out a little. There was a beautiful roof top pool AND LAUNDRY facilities. Always exciting when we find laundry facilities. Sure beats hand washing our clothing all the time.
Yesterday, while looking out our hotel room window I spotted a party street a block over, so tonight we went to check it out on our way back from picking up a couple of shawarmas for dinner. Up at the corner on one of the main streets, we saw an older homeless type guy sitting, strumming and singing “West Virginia Mountain Momma!” The John Denver, Take Me Home, Country Roads song. We couldn’t believe our ears and immediately thought of our cruise friends, Karen and Will who live in West Virginia. Guess I was in such shock that I forgot to take a picture of him.
We had to cut through an alley to get back to our hotel. At least that was the only way we could figure it out. OH GROSS!!! Rats in the alley scurrying everywhere. Oh course I was screaming and the construction guys were all laughing at me. These construction guys start early in the morning and work until late at night. Exhausting! Back at hotel – ate shawarmas and Doug enjoyed a glass of wine.
